Block of 6 small town houses, Nos 83-87 and No.2 Dawson Square
now integrated as showroom/offices. Dated 1837 over corner;
altered. Coursed squared sandstone, stone slate roof hipped
over the corner. L-plan on corner site, No.83 occupying the
corner and the others all formerly double-depth and
single-fronted (Nos 83-87 remodelled).
3 storeys and cellars, 1+1+1 windows to Church Street, a
splayed corner, and 1+1+2+1 windows to Dawson Square; with a
moulded gutter cornice carried round and a small pediment over
the corner dated "1837" in raised lettering. At ground floor
No.83 has a corner doorway with plain surround and altered
door, and in each side-wall a large vertical rectangular
window with plain surround and shutter lugs; Nos 85 and 87
both formerly had similar openings with doorways to the left,
but No.85 now has a greatly enlarged C20 window replacing both
the doorway and the original window (re-using the jambs of the
former doorway). The windows at 1st floor are
vertical-rectangular and those at 2nd floor square, all with
raised sills, plain surrounds and C20 glazing (15 and 9 panes
respectively). Nos 2 and 4 Dawson Square have doorways
flanking a through-lobby doorway and No.6 has a doorway at the
right-hand; No.4 has a 16-pane sashed window at ground floor,
2 similar windows at 1st floor and two 9-pane sashes at 2nd
floor, and No.6 has one window on each floor with top-hung
casements imitating this pattern; all these openings with
surrounds like those to Church Street. Large rectangular
corniced ridge chimneys. Rear and INTERIORS not inspected.
Forms a group with Nos 89-91 Church Street (qv).
