sides of St Peter's churchyard

GV II

Retaining wall to churchyard overlooking the river Brun.
Probably mostly c1807 (when the churchyard was enlarged and
properly enclosed), but incorporating earlier abutments built
in 1736. Coursed and random sandstone rubble with a rounded
coping. Curved line following southward bend of river round
church, from Church Street Bridge (qv) at north-east corner of
churchyard, to south-west corner of churchyard, gradually
diminishing in height from approximately 10m near the bridge.
