Probably early to mid C19 but it could in parts be older; it is shown on the Tithe Map of 1839. It is probably a part of the more formal setting and appearance given to the farmhouse in the C19.
Built of local lias limestone rubble which is almost entirely ivy covered. It is about 1.5m in height and surrounds the rear garden plot of West Aberthaw farmhouse with the lane angled around it. It is an important feature of the setting of the farmhouse and its associated buildings.
Included for its special interest as a part of a very complete C19 Vale farmstead and for its group value with West Aberthaw Farmhouse.
