History

Late C18 roadbridge, built to carry the main approach road to the estate. Probably built as part of the improvements to the estate which were thought to be carried out under the direction of Mary Trygarn, mother of Holland Griffiths, owner of the estate at that time.

Exterior

Built of rubble masonry, the lake outlet stream passes through tall, square headed arches with stone slab lintels, projecting slightly under a plinth course. Above the road level the walling stands to a height of c0.5m with rounded gritstone coping. The road beyond the bridge, to the house (N side), divides into two; one branch leading to the front of the house, the other to the estate buildings to the rear. The walling runs c 10m along each branch of the road, with the bridge situated to the SW end. Each stretch of walling is terminated by paired, square, rubblestone gateposts bearing a large ball finial.

Reasons for Listing
