History

Early to mid C19 end terrace house, much altered, the top storey added and rest remodelled by early C20. Building shown on this site on 1844 tithe map. Shown in present form in photograph of c1909, but photograph dated to c1910 shows the building still unaltered.

Exterior

House, painted stucco cladding, slate roof with 3 roof lights and small brick stack to left end. Big 3-storey 3-window front range, although top storey (which, being of brick, is presumably added soon after 1900) has 4 C20 plate-glass windows replacing sash windows. On first floor, large c1900 canted oriel window to each side, each of 3 sash lights, with glazing bars in upper parts of sashes only, 15 panes to front and 6 to sides. Oriels have blind cambered arches over windows and ornate cornices with moulded close-spaced brackets. The plain bases may be altered. Single 4-pane sash window to centre. On ground floor, a triple sash window of 2-4-2 panes to either side of central C20 4-panelled door with plain overlight. Windowless right end wall.

Reasons for Listing

Included as a prominent 3-storey building at the top of the hill from the lower town, with oriel windows of c1900-10.
