WALL: 18th century; coped rubble wall incorporating composite garden folly of fireplace and dormerheads, and ice house entrance.
FIREPLACE: 1624. Renaissance fireplace enriched with Greek fret, rosettes and dog-tooth. Inscription along cornice reads: I MAR 1624 YEAR SO AS LIVELY STONES ARE BUILT UP A SPIRITUAL HOUSE I PETER 2 5. Surmounting tympani from dormer windows with crowning finials: rose, thistle and star.
ICE HOUSE ENTRANCE: carved strapwork; shield on lintel showing combined arms of Foulis and Bannatyne families; detached stone above with crowning sun.
A-Group with Ravelston Tower, Mary Erskine School (Ravelston House), Dovecot, Entrance Gateway and Boundary Walls, Garden Walls of No 37 (also incorporating fireplace), Queensferry Road Entrance Gate, ice-houses and 31 & 33 Ravelston Dykes Road. The old tower house at Ravelston was erected by George Foulis, who purchased the estate in 1620. The new mansion house was probably built by Alexander Keith in the late 18th century; he died in 1792. The fireplace and ice house entrance are from the old Tower House. The ice house survives in remodelled state (see list description for Ice House to left of 37 Ravelston Dykes Road).
