Possibly 17th century in origin with later re-workings and later alterations. Single storey and attic; 7-bay dwelling house. Squared and snecked rubble; painted harl on N elevation; exposed margins.
N (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION (entrance to No 31): 2-storey harled L-plan centre: single window on ground floor of N face; 2 single windows above at 1st floor; entrance door on W return; single window on N face of return; modern attic windows. Single storey range to right: exposed rubble; 2 single windows. 1 ? storey range to left: 2 single windows at ground; 2 crowstepped dormer windows above; lean to garage to left.
E ELEVATION: modern V-plan window at ground.
S ELEVATION (entrance to 33): 2-storey rubble centre; 1 ? storey range to right with 2 crowstepped dormer windows; modern conservatory at ground floor.
A-Group with Ravelston Tower, Mary Erskine School (Ravelston House), Dovecot, Entrance Gateway and Boundary Walls, Garden Walls of No 37 and No 87, Queensferry Road Entrance Gate, and ice-houses. It is probable that the original part of this house formed part of the estate buildings of the Ravelston Tower House, which was erected by George Foulis, who purchased the estate in 1620.
