Description

Earlier to mid 19th century with later alterations. 3-storey, 3-bay rectangular-plan near symmetrical pair of houses with gabled (E) elevation to street, adjoining 2-storey, 3-bay house to left (W), (see notes), with fenestrated chamfered SE angle at ground, built on ground falling to E. Harl-pointed roughly coursed rubble with cement margins to openings. Eaves course.

S (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: deep-set modern part-glazed timber panelled door at ground in bay to centre; window at each floor above. Window at each floor in bay to left. Modern part-glazed timber panelled door at ground in bay to right; window at each floor above.

E (DUNDAS STREET) ELEVATION: 2-bay gabled wall with blocked window to centre. Window in chamfered bay to left; window at each floor above. Tall stair window at ground in bay to right; window at each floor above; gablehead stack above.

Replacement 12-pane timber sash and case windows. Grey slate roof; stone ridge; concrete skews; harled, coped gablehead stacks; uPVC rainwater goods.

INTERIOR: not seen, 1997.

Statement of Interest

Adjoining house to W (number 27) listed separately. Number 23 recorded as being from 1904-06, a Grocer's and then a Bakery, and a Bootmender's.
