Henderson and Fowlie, 1920. Tall slender octagonal 5-stage
war memorial tower on stepped based. Tooled grey granite,
bullfaced lower stage, tooled granite dressings.
Lower stage defined by cornice with keystoned occulus
immediately below in each face. Each face (except that with
recessed doorway) with polished grey granite plaque inscribed
with names of fallen of 1914-18 and 1939-45 wars. Rectangular
barred openings (to light internal stair) in alternate faces
of 1st stage and randomly sited in 2nd and 3 stages. Deep
crenellated wallhead stage delineated by blocked cornice with
blind crosslet in each face.
Commanding site overlooking Macduff.
Plaque in base of memorial records that 'This foundation
stone was laid by Prince and Princess Arthur of Connaught 15
April, 1920'. Princess Arthur of Connaught was daughter of
the Duke of Fife.
