Description

A and W Reid, Elgin 1851 (incorrectly re-cut datestone

1841). 2-storey and dormerless attic, 3-bay house. Polished

ashlar frontage with polished ashlar dressing (Moray

sandstone), rubble gables. Centre pilastered entrance with

portico supported by 2 Roman Doric columns; flanking corniced

and aproned windows with moulded surrounds; blocked cills

below 1st floor windows (slightly shorter than ground floor fenestration); single centre window with (incorrectly)

re-dated and blocked attic window above in N gable.

Rusticated ashlar quoins; moulded eaves cornice; corniced end

stacks; slate roof.

Shallow rear stair projection.

INTERIOR: staircase with simple wooden balusters and

polished handrail. Simple cornices to all rooms; plain grey

marble chimneypieces in NW upstairs room. Panelled doors.

GARDEN WALLS: house separated from street by low coped garden

wall; rear garden enclosed by high rubble wall.
