Description

Earlier 19th century. Single storey tollhouse, set on slope,
with basement to rear (W).
E (ROADSIDE) ELEVATION: stugged ashlar with polished margins
(flanks and rear snecked rubble), canted and crenellated
3-bay centre, door in outer right bay; sash windows with
12-pane glazing pattern. Corniced central axial stack;
broad-eaved piended roof, covered with graded slates.
Sympathetic modern extension recessed on left (S) flank.

Statement of Interest

One of a pair of identical tollhouses built at either end of

Langholm Burgh; other examples exist at Fiddleton Bar and at

Canonbie.
