1871 pedestrian suspension bridge designed by Messrs
Herneulewiczs and Co, London, collapsed on opening day;
present steel suspension bridge constructed also presumably
1871 using original pylon-suporting piers; deck timbers
replaced and walkway asphalted 1985.
PIERS: bull-faced grey and red ashlar; pointed cutwaters. SUPERSTRUCTURE: plain open-worked pylons with finials; ramped
walkway supported by steel rods; simple open-worked parapets.
Built for use of mill workers living in New Langholm.
