Description

Late 19th century. Police station with Scots baronial details. 2 storeys with attics. Stugged and coursed rubble sandstone with contrasting smooth sandstone dressings; raised quoins; 1st floor windows mostly segmental-arched; modern glazing. Long (N) elevation to Buccleuch Square has off-centre shallow advanced gable, 2 round-headed doors at ground, mullioned windows above; 3 regular single window bays to left, E gable with stepped 3-light attic window in panel and pair stacks over; barred cell windows at W. Crow-stepped/broad-eaved gables; coped stacks; slate roofs with red ridging tiles.
