Description

Style of W F MacGibbon. Dated 1886. 2-storey and
basement Scots baronial mansion with asymmetrical front,
crowstepped gable forward on left. Rounded left hand
corner with splayed and pedimented 1st floor window.
String course at transom level continues across face of
gable. Large 2-light mullioned and transomed window
with segmental basement opening below. Pedimented
dormer and splayed windows under corbelled corner on
right. Balustraded stair to right hand side and splayed
bay with conservatory to left hand side. Original
gatepiers to right hand driveway.
Elaborate and decorative interior, partly dating from
circa 1900, with art nouveau-detailed light fittings.
Drawing room has heavily gained wood panelling,
bracketted chimneypiece with overmantel (marble and
brass aesthetic movement fire surround); curved frieze
above is painted, with classical figures: doors
elaborately panelled, in lugged architraves, with
entablatures. Chimneypieces in dining room and library
both ornately detailed, with overmantels, mirrors,
shelves, drawers, niches: former has art nouveau
detailed copper fire hood, latter is linked by panelling
to bookshelves. Some leaded glass panels: 3-light stair
window facing E depicts Wallace, Mary Queen of Scots and
Bruce; Some wooden panelling and chimney pieces to
other rooms; cupola over billiard room depicts classical
figures (one pane replaced).
