Description

Circa 1869. 2-storey, 3-bay rectangular-plan villa. Squared and snecked rubble; finely stugged and coursed ashlar with polished dressings at E (entrance) elevation. Base and eaves courses; quoin strips; bracketed cornice; architraved windows, segmental-arched at 1st floor.

E (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: central deep-set panelled door; round-arched plate glass fanlight; architraved surround; detached column Venetian doorpiece, with carved capitals, semi-circular arch with roll-moulding, and broken pedimented canopied hood. Corniced tripartite window flanking to left at ground floor; single windows at centre and flanking at 1st floor; full-height canted window with dividing cornice in outer bay to right.

N ELEVATION: blank; garage attached.

S ELEVATION: window at 1st floor.

W ELEVATION: contemporary single storey addition (formerly domestic offices); central stair window and regular fenestration at 1st floor.

Plate glass sash and case windows to E; 4-pane sash and case windows to W. Grey slate piended roof; skylight to W; lead flashing; moulded eaves guttering; 5 wallhead stacks (4 shouldered and corniced); octagonal cans.

INTERIOR: porch with encaustic-tiled floor, ornate plaster cornice, and tripartite etched glass inner doorway.

Statement of Interest

Evidently by the same architect as 42 Lauder Road, where a similarly unique doorpiece may be found.
