Standard Edinburgh police box designed by City Architect Ebenezer James MacRae and his assistants A Rollo and J A Tweedie, 1930-31. Classical, rectangular cast-iron box 6ft by 4ft on plan, set into boundary wall of former Canongate U P Church (separately listed), on corner of Canongate and Cranston Street. 2-bay pilastered long elevations; one contains door bearing city arms. Single bay short elevations; triangular open pediments containing ribboned wreath decoration. Low pitched roof.
The saltire-pattern glazing is now blocked on this example. The boxes were designed to complement the classical architecture of Edinburgh.
