Built by 1780; later alterations and additions. 4-storey and attic, broad 2-bay tenement with commercial premises at ground. Coursed rubble with ashlar dressings. Tripartite windows at 1st and 2nd floors, bipartite at 3rd. Mansard roof with pair of bipartite dormers. 4-storey and attic 2-bay rubble rear elevation with bipartite windows to right.
4-pane timber sash and windows. Ashlar coped skews; harled stacks reduced to gablehead; grey slates.
INTERIOR: not seen 1995.
Top storey and roof are later. Commercial premises extends into No 65 (see separate listing). A Group with 55-67 (odd nos) Rose Street as as a significant surviving part of the original fabric of Edinburgh?s New Town, one of the most important and best preserved examples of urban planning in Britain.
