Late 19th century. Pair 2-storey, 4-bay colony houses
with attic; entrances at ground from School Road and at
rear via brick forestairs to 1st floor. Squared whinstone
rubble, grey stugged ashlar dressings.
S ELEVATION: to School Road, doorways to 3rd bays from
end with strip fanlights. Narrow windows flanking to
outside, wider windows to other bays; this pattern
echoed at 1st floor. 4 gabled dormers to attic.
N ELEVATION: 2-storey, gabled single bay projections to
outer bays and 2-bay projection at centre with windows at
ground and 1st floor. Brick forestairs with painted
railings to twin doors at 1st floor, flanked by windows.
Doorways in forestair to ground floor. Flat-roofed,
modern dormers to attic.
Blank gable ends with outhouse additions, porch to E.
Grey slates, overhanging bracketted eaves with painted
barge-boards. Ashlar coped end and mutual stacks.
Low rubble retaining wall to School Road.
Built by Rev. T S Majoribanks of Prestonkirk circa 1875 to
create employment in the parish.
