Probably circa 1830. Late Georgian terraced row of 2-storey
houses with railed basements and attics. Near symmetrical,
with depressed-arched pend in shallow advanced off-centre
bay. Polished red ashlar - now mostly painted - channelled
at ground and with rusticated flat window arches. 3
3 2-storey houses to left of pend, single 5-bay house (no 32)
to right (originally free-standing) with depressed-arched
doorway and later 19th century columned porch, panelled doors
with fanlights; sash windows, mostly with glazing bars. String
at 1st floor cill level; eaves course; cornice; blocking
course; 3 dormers; end stacks; slate roofs. Single-window
over pend recessed in segmental-arched panel.
A group with 32-42 George Street, 25-47 and 12-30 Castle
Street, Greyfriars Church and 75-83 Buccleuch Street. Street
lay-out by Robert Burn, 1806, but elevations differ from
those on Castle Street thought to be by him (see notes to
25-37 Castle Street above). Not shown on Wood's map, 1819.
