Probably circa 1830. Late Georgian. Two 2-storey terraced
houses with attics and railed basement. Red ashlar - no 35 stone-cleaned, no 37 painted - channelled at ground and
with rusticated flat window arches; pilastered doorpieces,
recessed panelled doors with fanlight; inset pilasters;
band courses between floors; eaves band; cornice; blocking
course; end stacks; slate roofs. No 35 is 2 bays with
advanced entrance bay; 2 dormers, the larger piended and
canted; projecting bay added to rear. No 37 has 3 bays.
A group with 32-42 George Street, 25-47 and 12-30 Castle
Street, Greyfriars Church and 75-83 Buccleuch Street. Street
lay-out by Robert Burn 1806, but elevations differ from
those in Castle Street, thought to be by him (see notes to
25-37 Castle Street above). Not shown on Wood's map, 1819.
