James MacLaren circa 1860, 2-storey ashlar-fronted villa, rubble-built sides and rear.
S ELEVATION: centre 3-light window with small consoled cornice; 2 single lights over. End ground floor canted bays with bipartites over. Cornice and blocking course. Porch set back at right with round-arched doorpiece.
Modern extensions at rear.
Piended slate roof, wallhead stack at E gable. Sash and case windows, 1st floor lying panes.
Single storey and basement billiard room wing to rear, arched architraved window to E and 3 bays with centre door to N, bracketted eaves and steep French pavilion roof with brattishing and octagonal cupola. Single tacks.
Screen wall linking No 11 with curved parapet. Boundary walls, low ashlar at front, high rubble-built at rear.
For George Carmichael of J and C Carmichael and Sons, engineers. A mirror image of No 10 for brother David, except that No 10 lacks decoration.
