Description

Style of William Robertson, Elgin, 1830-40. 2-storey, wide 3-bay
house now converted to garage use. Rubble, tooled and polished
ashlar dressings. Recessed centre bay with Ionic distyle
columned screen linking projecting outer bays and supporting
1st floor balcony. Centre entrance with simple moulded
surrounds. Right outer bay has original ground floor window
with corniced and shallow pedimented lintel with anthemion
acroteria, moulded and lugged surrounds and plain apron.
Regular 3-bay fenestration in E and W gables, marred at W by
slapping of showroom doors and later rendered blocking;
similar slapping for shop window in left front bay. 9-pane
glazing in 1st floor windows except centre front, 12-pane in
ground floor. No chimney stacks survive; shallow projecting
piended slate roof.
Single storey rubble service wing abuts rear elevation,
projecting right and left to form set back wings with piended
slate roofs.
Interior: centre staircase with simple cast-iron balustrade.

Appears as Park Cottage on 1st edition OS, Circa 1870.

Petrol pump canopy fronting house is not included in listing.
