Description

James Sandford Kay, Glasgow, Dated 1907. Tall Scottish Baronial
tower, sqaure on battered base; bullfaced rubble, polished
ashlar dressings. Tall battered plinth stepped back to tower;
corbelled upper storey, balustrade and circular, crenellated
stair turret rising above balustrade. Round-headed recessed
entrance in north elevation with heavy rusticated and cabled
moulded architraves; memorial plaque above with ornate pediment;
similar detailing to windows fitted with yetts in remaining 1st
floor faces; slit windows light stairs.

Statement of Interest

Architect appointed after competition 1904. Memorial stands

in centre of burial ground on Mitchell Hill and is landmark.

Erected to memory of Major-General Sir Hector Archibald

Macdonald, KCB, DSO, ADC.
