Description

Early 19th century, with mid 19th century alterations. 3-storey, single bay (with outer corner bay) tenement. Painted sandstone. Base course; mutuled shopfront cornice; 1st and 2nd floor cill courses; eaves course.

SE (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: entrance to corner bay; glazed timber door; consoled decorative balcony; splay-corbel aligned above. Shop window at ground; regular fenestration at 1st and 2nd floors to single bay.

SW (CATHCART STREET) ELEVATION: 3-bay with outer corner bay. Pilastered, mutule corniced doorpiece to outer left; glazed timber door; narrow window to right; single window at ground to centre; shop window at ground to outer right; regular fenestration to upper floors. Corner bay to outer right (see above).

Predominantly plate glass timber sash and case windows at upper floors. Grey slate roof; coped stack; circular cans.

INTERIOR: not seen 1998.

Statement of Interest

A good example of early 19th century architecture, altered in the mid 19th century to incorporate the elaborate entrance balcony and corbelling work.
