Description

Earlier 19th century, with later alterations. 2-storey, 3-bay detached villa. Painted sandstone entrance elevation; harl to sides. Base course; central dividing band course; eaves course; cornice; blocking course; pilastered quoins. Aprons to single window openings.

SE (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: central fluted Greek Doric entrance porch; mutuled cornice; blocking course; timber door; 3 circular panels to letterbox fanlight; single window aligned above at 1st floor. Single windows at ground and 1st floor to bay to right. Canted bay at ground floor to left (probably later addition), single window aligned above at 1st floor.

NE ELEVATION: single storey wing advanced to right of ground floor, window flanking to left, window off-centre to right of 1st floor.

NW AND SW ELEVATIONS: not seen 1999.

Plate glass timber sash and case windows. Slate roof; wallhead corniced stacks; polygonal cans. Cast-iron rainwater goods.

INTERIOR: not seen 1999.

GATEPIERS AND BOUNDARY WALL: square-plan gatepiers to outer right, lamps atop; low coped boundary wall enclosing site.

Statement of Interest

Marked on Ordnance Survey map, 1858 as Blair Lodge. Good example of an earlier 19th century classical villa, notable for its impressive Greek Doric entrance porch and circular-panelled letterbox fanlight.
