Description

Earlier 19th century. 2-storey, 3-bay Italianate villa with flanking screen walls. Painted entrance elevation; harl to sides. Base course; broad timber eaves.

SE (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: central, decorative cast-iron porch, rising to 1st floor balcony; glazed timber door; letterbox fanlight with 2 circular motifs within; single window aligned above at 1st floor. Advanced gabled bays flanking; single window to bay to right at ground floor; pentice bracketed hood over, single window at 1st floor; canted bay to left with stone roof, single window aligned above at 1st floor. Keystoned segmental arch to screen wall to outer left; square-headed and arched entrance to screen wall to outer right.

NE AND SW ELEVATIONS: irregular fenestration.

NW ELEVATION: not seen 1999.

Plate glass, 4-pane and lying-pane timber sash and case windows. Slate roof; paired polygonal corniced stacks; circular cans. Cast-iron rainwater goods.

INTERIOR: not seen 1999.

GATEPIERS AND BOUNDARY WALL: square-plan gatepiers to outer left (vehicular) and right (pedestrian); low boundary wall enclosing site.

Statement of Interest

Marked on Ordnance Survey map, 1858 as Blackburn Place. Substantial detached villa, notable for its unusual fine ironwork porch, with the flanking screen walls adding further to the villa's interest.
