Description

Circa 1884. 3-storey, 3-bay Renaissance tenement with modern shopfront at ground floor. Polished grey ashlar. Cornice to shopfront; rusticated 1st floor; moulded cill course at 2nd floor; pulvinated frieze; dentilled cornice; segmental pediment broken by segmentally pedimented aedicule.

SW (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: entrance to outer right to shop at ground; 2-leaf modern door; letterbox fanlight; shop window to left. Regular fenestration at 1st and 2nd floors; cornices and segmental pediments to 1st floor windows; lugged architraved windows at 1st and 2nd floors.

9- and 12-pane upper sashes to timber sash and case windows at upper floors. Wallhead stack to rear.

INTERIOR: not seen 1998.

Statement of Interest

Nos 146-176 High Street were rebuilt on a new set-back street line following the Ayr Burgh Act (1885), which made provision for the widening of the High Street.
