Mid 19th century. 3-storey, 5-bay classical block with modern shopfronts at ground. Polished red ashlar. Dentilled cornice, central bay breaking forward; panelled parapet with dies, pediment to central bay. Giant pilasters rise through 1st and 2nd floors dividing bays.
W (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: timber door at centre; letterbox fanlight; 2 shops flanking; central glazed doors to both; flanking shop windows; timber gate to close to outer right. 2 single windows to central 3-bays at 1st and 2nd floors; tripartite windows to flanking bays; panelled aprons, architraves and cornices to 1st floor windows (no aprons to central bay), pediments to flanking outer bays; corbelled cills to 2nd floor windows.
Plate glass timber sash and case windows. Grey slate roof; corniced wallhead and apex stacks; polygonal cans.
INTERIORS: not seen 1998.
Central pole supports for tram power lines were replaced in 1924 by wall brackets, and one of these remains at 1st floor to the right of the penultimate window to outer right.
