Description

Thomas King, 1824. 2-storey and attic, 4-bay mirrored pair of houses. Painted render; rubble to sides. Base course; eaves course; cornice; blocking course; tympany gable.

E (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: steps to central consoled, corniced block-pedimented doorpieces; timber doors; letterbox fanlights (geometrical pattern to No 49); 2 single windows to outer bays at ground; regular fenestration at 1st floor (non-aligned). Segmental headed dormers to outer right and left at attic.

Plate glass timber sash and case windows at ground floor; 12-pane at 1st floor; 16-pane at attic. Grey slate roof; rooflights; wallhead and gablehead stacks; circular cans.

INTERIORS: not seen 1998.

Statement of Interest

A good pair of earlier 19th century houses fronting Fort Street, notable for their long consoled doorpieces and distinctive tympany gable. Ayr Baptist Church (see separate list description) stands adjacent.
