Description

Late 18th century. Single-storey, five-bay cottage. Rubble masonry, mostly whitewashed, grey steeply-pitched slate roof. Four and 12-pane sash and case windows, boarded doors, ashlar chimneystacks.

South elevation: door with window at left and right, slightly later bay in similar style at right with window and door; further lower outbuilding bay recessed at far right with corrugated metal roof.

North elevation: Two windows.

Interior: original joinery; 19th century chimneypieces.

Statement of Interest

This cottage was probably erected by Captain David Laird of Strathmartine Castle, an 'improving' landlord who rebuilt estate properties. See notes to Strathmartine Castle, Rosemill (Old) Cottage and Dovecot.
