Late 18th century. Single storey, 5-bay cottage and byre. Rubble masonry, mostly whitewashed, grey slate steeply-pitched roof. Deep-set 8- and 12-pane sash and case windows, boarded doors, truncated brick stacks.
S ELEVATION: door flanked by 8-pane windows at left off-centre; blocked door at left, byre door and partially blocked opening at right.
E GABLE: window at centre.
W GABLE: 12-pane window at right.
N ELEVATION: door and window to byre at left; small window at right.
This cottage was probably erected by Captain David Laird of strathmartine Castle, an 'improving' landlord who rebuilt the estate properties. See also East Cottage and NOTES to Strathmartine Castle.
