Circa 1800. Single storey lodge with bowed end elevations. Random rubble with contrasting sandstone ashlar dressings; stone mullions. Door to S with 5-pane strip fanlight. 2 bipartites to bwoed W elevation; single window in bowed E elevation. Harled modern addition to rear. Sash and case windows with 12-pane glazing pattern to bipartites; some modern glazing. Grey slates to curved roof, corniced ashlar central stack. Heavily pointed, sandstone gatepiers.
Seemingly a gatelodge to an earlier mansion house; the present Elvingston House by John Tait in 1837 is to the W and is listed separately, as is its contemporary South Lodge.
