Description

Early-mid 18th century. Tall 3-storey warehouse built against
side of slope and revealing only 2 storeys at N (to Harbour
Road). Harled rubble.
NORTH (SEAWARD) ELEVATION: irregular 5 bays; segmental-headed
entrance with double-leaf plank doors.
SOUTH (HARBOUR ROAD) ELEVATION: 5 bays. 2 doorways,
additional entrance in 1st floor under gabled dormer breaking
wallhead and reached by wooden forestair.
Varied glazing. End and ridge stacks, truncated at W gable;
slate and corrugated-asbestos roofs.

Statement of Interest

Gardenstown established in 1720 by Mr Alexander Garden of

Troup; this building would have been one of the first in the

township, used for the storage of goods exported from and

imported into the harbour by which it stands.
