Description

Mid 19th century. Square plan 3-draw, tunnelled limekiln.
Coursed stone in long blocks; sandstone to some dressings
and to top 5 courses. Sited on ground falling to N, to
coastline. Round arched tunnel to S running E-W. Round
arched draw openings to N, E and W feeding kiln of inverted
cone shape, brick-lined.

Statement of Interest

Overgrown quarry sited nearby. Catcraig Limekiln, by East

Barns, was a more renowned Kiln and restored (1966).

Skateraw Harbour was built early in the 19th century for

export of lime and import of coal.
