Probably 17th century, now detached ingleneuk formerly
adjoined to 2-storey house, currently linked to a single
storey gabled cottage, possibly a remnant of the earlier
house. Random rubble with some beach boulders. The ingleneuk
projects 8' from cottage, is 11' wide and circa 20' high,
coped with rounded slabs. Doorway with timber margins
inserted on N return. N, S and W sides battered. Low former
aperture apparent on outer E side.
COTTAGE: adjoined to W side of ingleneuk in random rubble,
formerly rendered; enlarged opening to right with a surviving
moulded jamb. Blocked doorway flanking to left. Corrugated iron
roof; brick gable end stacks. Currently serving as store.
FURTHER COTTAGE: adjoined to former at right angles at
NW corner; piend-roofed with pantiles. 4 openings to N
with doorway in outer left; rubble retaining walls adjoined
to N and W.
Served as ingleneuk to single storey cottage. Dr J S
Richardson compared it with a similar chimney at Auldhame
(now demolished). Alexander Carse painted a coastal scene
with ingleneuk house, which has been identified by Dr John
Shaw as that at Thorntonloch.
