Description

Mid to later 19th century 2-storey L-plan farmhouse, with

single storey service wing, made U-plan later in century when

single storey wing was raised to 2-storey. Squared and

snecked sandstone with droved grey ashlar dressings,

chamfered arrises to openings, raised base and eaves courses;

bull-face rendering to 1st floor addition. Stone mullions.

S (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: asymmetrical 3-bay; advanced gable to

outer right with bipartites to each floor and square panel in gable-head; gabled porch set in re-entrant angle, bracketted,

gabled hood to pointed arched doorway; pointed arch,

diamond-pane fanlight, and 2-leaf doors; narrow window to S

and bipartite at 1st floor above porch breaking eaves in

gabled dormerhead. Bipartite window and similarly detailed

1st floor window to outer left bay.

COURTYARD ELEVATION: eaves of S wing swept down at centre,

and lean-to outbuildings added; small court closed by coped

rubble wall with gateway at centre.

E ELEVATION: windows at centre of original 2-storey house at

left, that at 1st floor detailed as above. 3 slightly

recessed, irregularly grouped bays to right, with eaves

course of former single storey wing serving as string course

below raised bays; outer right door blocked as window.

Blocked window on W elevation.

12-pane glazing pattern to sash and case windows, 8-pane to

each bipartite light; grey slates, gable end stacks, and

ashlar coped skews with consoled skewputts.

GARDEN WALLS: rubble coped rubble walls with swept quadrants

by gateway to NE.

Statement of Interest

Listed category B as well-preserved, dignified farmhouse with

attractive details. Steading to E, not included in current

listing.
