Circa 1840. 2-storey, 3-bay house. Stugged, squared and
snecked sandstone with raised, droved ashlar dressings and
eaves course; rubble at rear and sides. Sited prominently on
bend of Main Street.
W ELEVATION: gabled porch advanced at centre, with round
arched doorway, 2-leaf panelled doors and decorative
fanlight; slate roof. Windows flanking and to each bay at 1st
floor.
S ELEVATION: canted bay added at ground at centre, with stone
roof; remaining walls blank.
E ELEVATION: single storey piend roof projection, probably
added shortly after, to centre and right bays, with jarring
window enlargement. Widely spaced 1st floor windows in outer
bays.
N ELEVATION: former service court covered as garage; blank
1st floor bays.
12-pane glazing pattern to sash and case windows.
Shouldered, ashlar coped wallhead stacks; slated piend roof
with lead flashings.
RETAINING WALLS: ashlar coped rubble parapet wall to W front,
and rubble garden walls.
Earlier 20th century, timber summerhouse in garden. Allegedly
built by a Mr Whitelaw, in whose family the house remained
until 1960s, on a lease and hence the name.
