Probably circa 1800, alterations and additions of circa 1900.
Long, 7-bay barn on south facing sloping site with long
elevations east and west, and with some stable/harness room accommodation in raised basement level at south end.
All harled.
7 long narrow, round-headed louvred windows in east elevation
in raised ground floor; similar but much larger (later
enlargement) round-headed opening in centre of west elevation
flanked each side by long slit vents. Access to stabling in
east elevation; 2 doors and window fitted with cast-iron "hit
and miss" grill with 3-pane light above. Small round-headed
vent in north gable; Clock face (c1900) high in south gable
apex below (also c. 1900) wooden bellcote fitted with
carillon, with diminutive pyramidal slated roof and cast-iron weathervane.
Interior; raised ground floor barn has later concreted floor;
winnowing door in west opening fitted with series small
holes for cross draught.
Use of sloping site with access to raised ground floor
threshing area at west, and stable accommodation below is
characteristic of Lochaber barns. At Callert the track at the
west side of the barn is at a slightly higher level than to
the east, and access can be obtained direct to barn floor
on that side.
