History

Snarestone war memorial was erected after the First World War, as part of the great wave of commemoration of the sacrifice made by the fallen from communities across the country.

The memorial was erected within a memorial garden that was created off Main Street. It was designed and erected by Messrs Wells and Company, monumental masons of nearby Hugglesctoe, at a cost of £75. The grounds were laid out by Messrs G Hart, of Measham.

The memorial commemorates seven local servicemen who fell in the First World War, and was unveiled on Sunday 26 February 1922 by Colonel German DSO.
