Lodge and former stable backing onto the road, c.1840 with C20 additions.
PLAN: Rectangular plan.
MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar, roof unseen.
EXTERIOR: A two-storey, two-window range. It is encircled by a coped parapet, cornice, cornice band and a platband at the ground floor. There is a former carriage entrance to the west facade which now has garage doors. The windows and door to south front are C20.
INTERIOR: Not inspected.
A relatively rare example of a Classically detailed coach house, complementing its similarly treated parent building, and thus forming an ensemble of a well-to-do suburban residence. It was converted to residential use in 1992.
The lodge to Apthorpe House is listed at Grade II for the following principal reasons:
* Architectural interest: it is a handsome mid-C19 former lodge and stable block with an interesting Classical finish which is in keeping with the design of Apthorpe House
* Group value: it has group value with the Apthorpe House and other listed buildings on Weston Road
