GV II

House, now in commercial use. Mid C19.
MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar, hipped slate roof with wide stone-bracketed eaves and moulded stacks to the returns.
EXTERIOR: Three storeys including an attic storey; symmetrical three-window Front. Six/six-pane sash windows without horns, moulded architraves to the upper floors. The first floor is articulated by paired Ionic pilasters supporting an entablature, the cornice of which forms a sill course to the attic storey. The projecting ground floor is articulated by paired Tuscan pilasters supporting an entablature, dentil cornice and coped parapet, with triglyphs above the pilasters. To the centre a half-glazed door with a tall six-pane overlight and side lights has a dentil pediment to the parapet. To the left is a glazed hip-roofed lean-to conservatory with Tuscan pilasters flanking horned two/two-pane sash windows with horizontal glazing bars.
INTERIOR: Not inspected.
An unusual Neo-classical design for its date, in which classical orders and entablatures have been applied to enliven an otherwise plain box. The house was adapted for business use in 1968.
