House, part of irregular terrace on hillside to north of London Road with entrance at rear on street. Mid C18, south front remodelled by John Palmer c1794 with early C19 block to north west corner.
MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar, pantile roof to north-east block, slate to south-west block with moulded stacks.
EXTERIOR: Three storeys, single window range to north-west (street) facade, one three/three-pane second floor sash window over six/six-pane sashes. Three six/six-pane sashes to each floor of south façade, set within a full-height segmental bow with sill band to first floor, plat band with guilloche pattern at third floor level, deep cornice with fluted band below, parapet.
INTERIOR: Not inspected, but shutters noted as surviving.
HISTORY: The earliest house was remodelled in a fashionable Adam-inspired style by Palmer in c.1794. It was extended to the street at rear in the early C19 with a lower hipped lean-to roof against the higher 1794 block. Part of a row of former edge-of-town villas, built to take advantage of the southward prospect over Bath.
