Six terrace houses stepped uphill from No.1 to left. Late C18 with late C19 alterations.
MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar, double pitched slate roofs with moulded stacks to party walls.
PLAN: Double depth plans.
EXTERIOR: Three storeys and basements, single-window range except No.1 which has two-window range. Parapets, cornices and entablatures, ground floor platbands and many C18 hand-thrown chimney pots. Distinctive panelling to front doors, two-panels to base, one diagonally set square panel to top with knocker to centre. Some remaining ten/ten-pane sash windows to basements. No.1 has two-window range, left hand bay cants back with shallow segmental bay. Tripartite windows, six/six-pane sashes to second floor, plate glass to rest, one horned six/six-pane sash to second floor right. Six-panel door with narrow overlight to right. No.2 has door to left, six/six-pane sash window to left of centre, windows to right have chamfered jambs, eight/eight-pane sashes. No.3 has single-window range with door to right. Six/six-pane tripartite sashes to upper floors with wide wrought iron balconette to first and ground floors. No.4 similar with margin panes to ground floor window and no balconettes. No.5 similar to No.4. No.6, Hanover House, faces north. Entrance front right return of terrace. Symmetrical three-window range. Second floor has six/six-margin paned windows, various windows to first floor with good trellised balconettes. Six-panel door glazed to top flanked on left by segmental arched recess with plate glass sash window and on right by single storey block to right with cornice and parapet and plate glass window. Left return facing street has eight/eight-pane sashes and blind windows to upper floors and plate glass sashes to ground floor.
INTERIOR: Of No.2 open-well, open-string staircase with stick balusters and mahogany handrail, blocks to upper corners of reeded architraves and six-panel doors. Stone stairs to basement which has stone-flagged floor, stone skirtings, cast iron kitchen range with back boiler (made in Bath), brick cistern and tap and vault under road. Inspected by Bath Council c1980. No. 5 has timber stairs with cut string, mahogany rail. Fine original marble fireplace and grate.
