Shops with accommodation over. Possibly mid/late C18, altered in mid C19, possibly refronted c1820-1840, possibly rebuilt then.
MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar with roof not visible from street.
EXTERIOR: Four storeys, three windows to whole, two:one, with right hand bay set forward slightly and with two storey carriage arch on lower floor. Nos 15 and 16 have separate shopfronts, No.16 being stepped slightly up, but of same date and design and fronting same shop internally. Surrounds mid C19, but shop windows are mid C20 and have band of pointed arches across top. Shop entrance to right of No.15, doorway to upper floors (six panel) to right of No.16. Tall carriage arch (No 16A) (to give access to inn yard of Royal York Hotel (qv) George Street) has semicircular head with keystone. Upper floor windows are all eight/eight sashes in architrave surrounds except first floor window of No.16 has tripartite one with stone mullions and plain sashes, No architrave. Cornice, parapet. Rear elevation not seen.
