Terrace of five houses. Numbered right to left, described left to
right with that to right having main facade to return.
c1730's-60's with right return facade early C19 and with later
additions and alterations including attic to right house of late
C19; in two stages of build. Pinkish-red brick in Flemish bond with
red brick and stucco window arches, stone sills; slate roof and
left end and party-wall brick stacks with oversailing courses and
pots.
EXTERIOR: Three storeys, with basements and with attic to right
house, 2:2:3:2:4 first-floor windows. First floor has mainly 8/8
and 6/6 sashes where original; second floor has 4/4, 4/8, 3/3
sashes and an 8/8 Yorkshire sash. Ground floor has 8/8 and 6/6
sashes where original; windows mainly with flat arches of gauged
brick except to third and fourth windows (No.10) which have
voussoired stucco arches and keystones; mainly in plain reveals
except those to two windows to right are near-flush; further
inserted multi-pane elliptically-arched light to No.8 to ground
floor. Attic storey to right has eight-pane casement, otherwise three
blind openings. Eaves: from left, modillion eaves; frieze and
ovolo-moulded cornice; two with plain eaves; frieze and
ovolo-moulded cornice; plain eaves. Elliptically-arched slit
openings to basements. Entrances: at right, left, centre and
right: four- and five-panel doors, the lower panels flush-beaded, upper
panels raised and fielded, that to centre in panelled reveals; three
to right have overlights with lozenge and margin-lights where
original, doorcases have fluted and panelled pilasters, frieze
and hood, mostly with shallow pediments except to the second
entrance (No.10) which has an open pediment. Further entrance to
passageway to No.9 has cambered-arched opening.
Right return (No.7): Three storeys plus attic, two first-floor windows.
1/1 sashes in near-flush frames with sills and flat arches of
gauged brick throughout. Frieze and cornice. Attic dormer to
centre has 1/1 sash in pedimented Dutch-style gable. Entrance a
six-flush-beaded panel door at right has fanlight with radial
glazing bars within open-pedimented doorcase, renewed.

INTERIORS: not inspected.

HISTORICAL NOTE: house to right (No.7) shows evidence of earlier
openings and may have been Fell's Boarding School, opened
c1742-50 and shown on Young's Map of 1779.

Forms a good group with Nos 1-6 (consecutive) and Nos 12, 13 and
14 Sansome Place (qqv).
