Villa c1823-28 for Captain Powell with later additions and alterations including range to rear c1900. Stucco over brick with hipped slate roof, 3 tall stuccoed end stacks with cornices and pots; timber and cast-iron verandah with lead and glazed roof. 2 storeys, 5 first-floor windows arranged 2:1:2. Stucco detailing includes plinth, full-height Doric pilasters to ends and to either side of central window. Wide eaves. 1/1 horned sashes throughout, all in plain reveals; those to ground floor have sills, those to first floor have louvered shutters. Central entrance: 3 steps to part-glazed door, the lower 2 panels flush and with reeding, fanlight has batwing and circle type glazing bars; tooled timber doorcase with fluted pilasters and open dentil pediment. Verandah at ground floor to front facade and right return has fluted columns and gothick frieze. Right return has 2 full-height canted bays with 1/1 sashes and casement windows.

INTERIOR: retains original joinery and plasterwork, with additions c1900. Openwell staircase with carved balusters and newel posts; Panelled shutters to windows, some 6-panel doors and fluted architraves with cornices and fleurons to angles. patterned tile floor to hall. Ground floor has cornices with acanthus moulding and further embellishment to ceiling.

Although now accessed from London Road, Heron Lodge was built as one of a group of Georgian villas along Lark Hill Road (qqv).
