House, now shop. c1750, with later additions and alterations
including shop front and attic dormers probably c1836-99 and
rebuilding to right gable end c1950-70. Dark red brick in
Flemish bond with plain tile roof; renewed brick left end
stack with oversailing course and pots, off-centre right
truncated brick stack and tall rear right brick stack with
overssailing course and pots.
2 storeys plus attics, 4 first-floor windows, outshut to rear.
First floor has alternating tripartite windows (with 6/6
between 2/2 sashes) and blind openings. Ground floor has
further tripartite window at left with 3/3 between 1/1 sash.
All windows under flat arches of gauged brick. Off-centre
right plate-glass shop window between pilaster strips, with
frieze and shaped imber cornice on corbel brackets; off-centre
left shop entrance, a 4-panel door, the upper panels glazed,
overlight in pilastered surround, frieze and moulded cornice
on corbel brackets. Further entrance at right a
4-flush-beaded-panel door with timber lintel. Shaped modillion
eaves band. 2 attic roof dormers have casement windows with
transom bars and timbering to gables. Decorative bargeboards
to right gable end.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
Nos 2-16 (consecutive) Edgar Street (qqv) form a significant
group, together with Nos 28-34 (even) Sidbury; No.12 College
Precincts; Tower House, No.1 Severn Street; and Edgar Tower,
College Green (qqv). Edgar Street (in which all the buildings
are listed) is a fine example of a Georgian street and it
forms part of the setting for the Cathedral (qv).
