27/12/62 Pengwern and attached garden walls

GV II

House. Late C17 or early C18, with C19 alteration. House of
stuccoed brick with stuccoed quoins; slate roof with one stone
coped gable and rendered and coped gable end stacks.
EXTERIOR: 3-storey, 2-window front with 2-storey 1-bay wing to
right. Left of centre front door is of 5 panels with upper
full-width panel. Windows are sashes with exposed weight boxes
and stone sills, 6/6 or 8/8 on ground and first floors; on
second floor, 4/8 sashes. All except those to wing have
cambered heads and all have continuous hoodmoulds which rise
over ground and first floor window heads.
INTERIOR: exposed floor beams, 2-panel doors on "H" hinges,
staircase in Jacobean form with square newels and spiral
balusters.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: the house garden is enclosed on the east,
south and west sides by a coursed sandstone rubble wall with
steeply weathered coping.
The garden walls were listed separately on 22/03/74.
