entrance to drive of Pittville Park

Gate piers, gates, railings and low walls. c1830-40. Stone
octagonal pair of 'Gothic' gate piers with peaked caps approx
2m high, and smaller outer pair approx 1.5m high. Wrought iron
double gates have flattened spearhead bars and dogbars, ramped
down towards centre. Similar railings each side sweep down
above low stone wall to smaller pier.
HISTORICAL NOTE: Pittville was developed for Joseph Pitt in
1825-42, the general layout being designed by architect John
Forbes with the Park as its centrepiece. The gateway forms a
significant streetscape feature.
