Terraced house and attached railings. c1827, probably laid out
for Joseph Hughes. Stucco over brick with concealed roof,
right end brick stack and iron railings. Double depth plan
with left side hallway and transverse dogleg staircase.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys on basement, 3 first-floor windows. Stucco
detailing includes first-floor band; full-height end pilasters
with decorative capitals, crowning frieze and cornice with
blocking course. 6/6 sashes throughout, in plain reveals and
with sills. Left end entrance: flight of 5 renewed stacks to
5-panel door with overlight with margin-lights.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: gate and railings to sides of steps and
area have arrowhead bars and dogbars with urn finials to
stanchions. Blind boxes remain to ground- and first-floor
windows.
HISTORICAL NOTE: formerly part of the north side of Portland
Square.
Forms a group with Nos 2, 4, and 8-30 (even), Albert Place
(qqv).
